Wigley: We Were Worthy Winners

Striker Kevin Phillips came off the substitute's bench to score a crucial winner in the south coast derby at St Mary's to relieve the pressure off the Saints boss, for the time being at least.

"It's a relief to finally get this first win," Wigley said after the 2-1 victory.

"It would have been nice if it had come sooner but I thought we were worth the three points.

"Our performance against Watford on Tuesday night was dire. That was the only word for it.

"But I felt this was the perfect match for my players to respond and they produced a very good performance. We had some players back that we have missed in the last few weeks and that helped as well."
