O'Driscoll told BBC Radio Sheffield: "It's just a ruse to sell papers. Nobody's contacted me from Southampton.
"I know the industry is full of rumour and speculation but if you're going to write something surely then you speak to the people involved."
He added: "I'm just annoyed that people jump to things.
"You [should] get a direct quote from me or a direct quote from [Saints manager] Alan [Pardew], not just write things that upset us people and players.
"So [I am] disappointed with the ethics of the industry more than anything else."
