No money available for loan signings

Wotte spoke ahead of the QPR of his desire to bring in an additional player on loan. I caught up with him after the game to ask which areas of the team he was looking to strengthen.

Unfortunately, the answer was that he could not bring anyone else in due to the finances and would have to make do with what he had.

Ideally, he would have liked to have brought in an experienced striker to help convert more of Saints' chances and provide competition for the Saganowski-Euell partnership, but remained confident that Saints had enough to stay up.

Given Saints decidely mixed record in the loan market this season it might be no bad thing, but the signing of Saeijs has shown that some lessons have been learned about the value of experienced heads to add quality not just numbers.

So, we know exactly what we have available until the end of the season and just have to hope that an already thin-looking squad doesn't suffer any further injuries.

The weaknesses in the squad have been brought into sharp focus by the two game suspension of Lloyd James after picking up his tenth yellow card of the season. There are no obvious candidates to replace him, with Wayne Thomas still on the long-term injury list, although the rumours are that Jake Thompson will be asked to deputise.
