Harry Rules Out Midfield Trio

Media reports have suggested that the new Saints boss may sacrifice selling striker James Beattie to fund the signing of a top class midfielder but Redknapp has played down such reports.

"James Beattie is a key player, a goalscorer and a character in the dressing room. We need to keep him if possible because he can score the goals to keep us up," Redknapp told the clubs official website.

And on the possible signing of either of the midfield trio, Redknapp commented: "Have you seen the wages these players earn? It is incredible!

"We could never afford to pay them. But I do have a few ideas of who I want."
