Fabrice Fernandes has been fined, banned from driving, given an 18 month rehabilitation order and 100 hours of community service after pleading guilty to the charge of dangerous driving.

The winger was almost twice the legal limit when he shot through nine red lights, was chased by police and almost hit a bus in May 2003. With Fernandes and the passengers in his car escaping uninjured, the sentencing being relatively light, and the fact that no bystanders were harmed the outcome for all concerned could have been much, much worse.

The judge gave Fernandes credit for acknowledging his guilt from the outset, and gave what must be seen as a light sentence for the star's reprehensivle actions.
