Bournemouth 0-3 Southampton: Player ratings as Saints cruise into FA Cup semi final

Southampton eased into the FA Cup semi-final with a comfortable 3-0 win over fellow south coast side Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Having seen an earlier goal ruled out for offside the visitors finally took control of the game shortly before half-time.

Moussa Djenepo handed his side the lead as he coolly slotted home following some great work by Nathan Redmond, before Redmond got himself on the scoresheet as he bamboozled the Cherries backline before firing high into the net.

The game was effectively ended as a contest as Redmond doubled his account for the afternoon just before the hour mark. Stuart Armstrong was unlucky to see his effort cannon off the post, but Redmond was on hand to tap home Southampton's third as they eased into the last four of the competition.

That's the match highlights out of the way, now to those all important Bournemouth and Southampton player ratings...

BOURNEMOUTH RATINGS

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Steve Cook was the pick of the Bournemouth defenders | Jan Kruger/Getty Images

Asmir Begovic (GK) - 5/10 - Little he could do about any of the Southampton goals, it was just a case of a gulf in class between the two teams. Still, he conceded three goals so not exactly a great afternoon.

Jack Stacey (RB) - 4/10 - Struggled to get the better of the more experienced Ryan Bertrand. Found himself pinned back in his own half for much of the game and was chasing shadows at times.

Cameron Carter-Vickers (CB) - 5/10 - Couldn't cope with the movement of Che Adams and found himself being bullied by the frontman at times.

Steve Cook (CB) - 6/10 - The pick of the Cherries defenders. Made a number of crucial blocks otherwise the visitors could have had six or seven.

Rico Henry (LB) - 5/10 - Not his usual marauding performance on the Bournemouth left. Couldn't impact the game in an attacking sense and struggled defensively.

2. Midfielders

Jack Wilshere didn't enjoy a great game in the midfield | Jan Kruger/Getty Images

Jack Wilshere (CM) - 5/10 - The former Arsenal man struggled to get on the ball in the early stages and it set the tone for his game on the whole. Just found himself walking around the midfield doing very little for much of the contest.

Philip Billing (CM) - 6/10 - At least looked like he was up for the battle and made a couple of impressive challenges. With touches of the ball few and far between he at least kept going and put in a shift for his team.

Ben Pearson (CM) - 5/10 - Bit of a nothing performance. No lack of energy or enthusiasm but it was just a case of being totally outclassed by a Premier League midfield.

3. Forwards

Rodrigo Riquelme (RW) - 5/10 - A few nice touches in and around the Saints area but nothing to hugely concern the visitors.

Dominic Solanke (ST) - 5/10 - Barely had a kick as the Saints backline completely swallowed him up. Couldn't keep hold of the ball as Bournemouth tried to relieve the constant pressure.

Arnaut Danjuma (LW) - 6/10 - Was lively early on and always seemed the most likely to make something happen. Was starved of possession for much of the game but did at least offer a threat on the rare occasion Bournemouth made it into the Southampton half.

4. Substitutes

Samuel Surridge (ST) - 5/10

Jaidon Anthony (ST) - 5/10

Chris Mepham (CB) - 6/10

Gavin Kilkenny (CM) - 6/10

SOUTHAMPTON RATINGS

5. Goalkeeper & defenders

Fraser Forster was barely called into action at the Vitality Stadium | GLYN KIRK/Getty Images

Fraser Forster (GK) - 6/10 - Given precious little to do on the afternoon but looked steady whenever he was called upon.

Kyle Walker-Peters (RB) - 7/10 - A constant outlet down the Southampton right. Defended very well and produced quality deliveries whenever he was in the final third.

Jan Bednarek (CB) - 7/10 - Did a great job of shackling Dominic Solanke and barely gave the former Liverpool man a kick.

Jannik Vestergaard CB) - 7/10 - As comfortable an afternoon as he'll have had in a long time. Replaced with 15 minutes to play (much to his bemusement), though it's clear just how highly his manager thinks of him to opt to give him a rest.

Ryan Bertrand (LB) - 8/10 - Absolutely ran the home side ragged down the left-hand side. A display full of energy and quality.

6. Midfielders

Stuart Armstrong charges away from Chris Mepham | Michael Steele/Getty Images

Stuart Armstrong (CM) - 8/10 - Could still be seen charging round the pitch in the last ten minutes as though it were the opening ten minutes. Unlucky not to get on the scoresheet having struck the post but a great display.

James Ward-Prowse (CM) - 7/10 - Helped in completely outclassing the Bournemouth midfield. Quality in possession and had the work rate to match.

Ibrahima Diallo (CM) - 6/10 - Didn't catch the eye as much as his midfield partners but was steady if not spectacular.

7. Forwards

Nathan Redmond ran the show for Southampton | Michael Steele/Getty Images

Moussa Djenepo (RW) - 7/10 - A livewire whenever he was on the ball and he got the ball rolling for the Saints with a cool finish shortly before half-time.

Che Adams (ST) - 7/10 - Bullied the Cherries defenders throughout and was unlucky to see VAR rule out his goal for offside. Could have scored a couple on another day but still a good performance.

Nathan Redmond (LW) - 9/10 - Ran the show from start to finish. Absolutely cut the home side's defence to pieces with his darting runs and came away from the game with an assist and two goals. Easily the best player on the pitch.

8. Substitutes

Jack Stephens (CB) - 6/10

Mohammed Salisu (CB) - 6/10

Nathan Tella (CM) - 6/10

Kayne Ramsay (RB) - N/A

Dan Nlundulu (ST) - N/A
