Looking ahead to Everton

Last updated : 18 April 2002 By Christian Kelly
Ahead of Saturday's game against Everton, we ask www.Everton-mad.co.uk editor Austin Rathe for his views on events with the Toffees and his prediction for the game.

What were your feelings on the end of Walter Smith's tenure with Everton.
Many thought he was doing a good job, while just as many felt that he was preventing Everton's return towards the top of the league.
I actually liked Walter Smith and was disappointed when he left, initially, however I have been proved wrong by David Moyes, who appears to be doing a great job, so the decision appears to have been justified.

Do you think that Everton can return to their form of the '80s anytime soon. ?
I don't think we can get back to our 80's glory 'soon', but it is possible. Everton are pretty much killing time until 2005 when we get our new ground. This will make us a huge amount of money, and then we can finally compete.

Nick Chadwick has certainly made an impression recently. Who are the Everton players to look out for ?
Look out for Chadwick, he's been doing well. Beyond that Radzinski can be dangerous, but our most influential player is probably Thomas Gravesen who can win a game for us if he's on form.

Are you happy with the club going into the inter-toto cup. Do you worry that you're players will be tired out before spring. ?
I am worried about the inter toto cup, but I'm slowly warming to the idea !

Finally, what's your score prediction for Saturday ?
As far as a score goes I think it'll be 1-1.

As Saints have become draw specialists of late, I think Austin's probably right. Of course I have to be a bit optimistic about things, so I'll go for a 2-1 away win.
