A mid table start to the decade marked the end of Arthur Chadwick's reign. New boss George Kay took Saints top, but only briefly and Saints finished an injury ravaged 31/32 14th.

Core players were sold to keep the club going to the displeasure of the supporters/ Keeping, Arnold, Light and Drake all went and Saints slumped to mid table mediocrity, if they were lucky. To sum up the first half of the decade, pressure from the lake, on which the Dell pitch was build on, created a deep hole in the Milton goalmouth. Kay and his assistant Shelley left for Liverpool.A major board reshuffle (notably brining in Mr. Corbett) brought a more positive approach, but new manager George Goss wouldn't last the season in which Saints finished fourth bottom.Tom Parker was the new manager and he rebuilt the team (bringing in the likes of Ted Bates) with the backing of the new board. Unfortunately, the team could only finish fifth bottom before war broke out, ending league football
