Starting line-up

Bialkowski - 7: Pipe and slippers game for Bart who had little to do, bar one Healy shot from distance that he saved comfortably.

Baird - 7: Solid game from Chris Baird restored to right back who showed his usual composed defending. Put in a couple of dangerous crosses, but didn't get forward as much as left back Skacel.

Lundekvam - 7:
Return to form for fit again captain Claus who used all his experience to limit Leeds to scraps up front. Showed his traditional shooting ability missing a free header yards out.

Pele - 8:
Showed he's more than a man with a famous nickname with a great performance. Made a number of important interceptions, including a vital block when Leeds finally opened up Saints in the second half. Tried to make the extra man count kickstarting Saints attacks by taking the ball out of defence.

Skacel - 7: With Bale and Makin out injured, Rudi put in a real team performance despite being short of fitness. Surprisingly was more effective in defence than attack, with some brave headers. Came into the game more as an attacking force after Leeds went down to 10 men, but wasted his sights of goal with some wayward shooting.

Viafara - 6: Again out of position on the right of midfield, but gave his all with some typically committed tackling. Was involved in the key moment of the game, as Thompson foolishly hauled him back after he went to confront a teammate. The less said about his shooting the better...

Guthrie - 8: If Liverpool don't want him, we certainly do. Hugely energetic performance from Danny in both the attacking and holding midfield positions. Despite some passes not coming off, he wasn't afraid to try things continuing to play football in the right way mixing short and long passes to good effect.

Idiakez - 6: Back in the starting line-up after his loan spell at QPR, he put in some good set pieces and neat passes, but failed to control the game, eclipsed by Guthrie's energy alongside him.

Surman - 7: Provided Saints with real width down the left, using the space and his trickery on the ball to put in a mixed bag of crosses. Another guilty of some wayward shooting, particularly on his unfavoured right foot missing a sitter from barely two yards as he hooked into the side netting when it seemed easier to score.

Rasiak - 6: Restored to the starting line-up, he started looking like a man with a point to prove before fading out of the game. His game though is all about finishing and understandable rustiness contributed to two missed headers. Took his one chance that fell to his feet, but it was ruled out for offside much to his frustration.

Jones - 7: Battering ram of a performance from a man who plays increasingly like Emile Heskey, at times unplayable, at times tackling himself. Had a strike ruled out for a questionnable offside and hit the post with a header. With a little more composure, Kenwyne could be some player.

Substitutes

Bradley Wright-Phillips - 8: Showed his wasteful teammates how its done with a well taken volley in off the bar to send St Mary's into rapture when it seemed like it was going to be another one of those days. Also put in some good runs down the right to break down the Leeds defence.

Belmadi - 7: Failed to spark in the centre of midfield, until he drifted wide and added the touch of quality we needed with two great crosses, one missed by Rasiak and the other buried by Wright-Phillips.

Best - 6: Little time to impress, but put himself about well to soak up the seconds at the end of the game.
