Starting line-up

Miller - 7: a target for the Palace boo-boys after going on strike over pay when he was there, but he made a number of confident and important saves in the first half. Might have done better with Andy Johnson's strike.

Baird - 8: hardly put a foot wrong all game, despite having once again to move to centre back when Kenton went off injured. Wins far more headers than he should given his height and made a number of perfectly timed interventions to once again enhance his growing reputation as a defender.

Kenton - 6: decent display from Kenton who was committed in the air and used his pace well to track the dangerous Andy Johnson. Still guilty of the odd moment of panic.

Lundekvam - 8: calmness personified from captain Claus who patrolled the Saints back line at walking pace and won just about every single header and tackle. Shear class.

Brennan - 6: quietly effective performance from Brennan who kept it simple and provided cover when Surman charged forward. Not much evidence of his crossing ability today.

Dyer - 7: gave the Palace left back a torrid time throughout the game, as the confidence returned to his game. Is slowly adding more end product to his runs, but really needs to find his shooting boots as he wasted chance after chance with hurried finishing.

Potter - 7: Potter is growing in confidence by the game and is starting to look like a genuine playmaker, if only he can add more physical presence in the centre of midfield. He got forward well, powering in a number of long range strikes, but failed to trouble Kiraly.

Wright - 7: another quietly effective performance from Wright who won the ball well in midfield and allowed Potter the freedom to get Saints moving. Another to waste an excellent chance inside the box.

Surman - 7: combined well with Brennan and Fuller on the left getting behind the Palace defence on a number of occasions, before fading towards the end. Had the best of Saints' chances from well inside the box and will be kicking himself over quite how he failed to score. Just needs more composure when he gets a sight of goal.

Fuller - 7: another committed performance from Fuller who looks like the player who scored all those goals for Preston. Still needs to work on his finishing as he was another to waste some excellent chances. Combined well with Rasiak, and was particularly impressive on the ball.

Rasiak - 6: an under-par display from Rasiak who underhit his chances and did not win his fair share of headers. Good skill on the ball, but has the turning speed of the Titanic.

Substitutes

Ostlund - 6: went AWOL for the second goal, but a typically committed display from the Saints cult hero. Put in some crunching tackles and got booked for his trouble for a challenge from behind. 'Jesus is our right back, lalalala...'

Jones - 5: anonymous display from Jones who failed to make his presence felt or work himself the sights on goal that he did against Millwall.
