Hull City romped to a 5-0 win against a woeful Southampton side at the KC Stadium to push themselves up to fifth in the Championship.

Fraizer Campbell put the Tigers ahead in the first half, then second-half goals from Henrik Pedersen, Michael Turner, Dean Marney and Bryan Hughes sealed an emphatic win for Phil Brown's men.

The home side took the lead on seven minutes as Marney, from just outside his own box, played an inch-perfect through ball over the top to Campbell, who raced on to it and placed the ball past the stranded Michael Poke with ease to make in 1-0 to Hull.

Hull went 2-0 up on 55 minutes as the Southampton defence failed to clear a Sam Ricketts throw-in, allowing the ball to fall to the feet of Pedersen who smashed the ball into the back of the net from six yards.

A minute later the home side were further in front as Turner registered his second goal in a week as Marney delivered a superb cross from the right straight onto the head of the centre-back, who powered in a header from six yards to make it 3-0 to the Tigers.

Brown's men then went 4-0 in up on 68 minutes as Marney ran on to a lay-off from Campbell and hit a 20-yard piledriver which saw the ball fly into the bottom corner of the net to cap off a great performance from the Hull midfielder.

Substitute Michael Bridges nearly grabbed a goal towards the end of the game, but he could only touch Marney's clever chip over Poke on to the post.

Hull made it 5-0 in injury time as substitute Hughes finished off a neat move with a curling right-footed effort from ten yards.
