Rumour Round Up - Koch and Kapo

Last updated : 21 August 2003 By Christian Kelly

L'Equipe was at it again a few days ago, saying that Saints had tabled a £3.5 million bid for Kapo. Neither club knew anything about such a bid, and now that we have Phillips this one looks very dead.

Another player who won't be on his way to St. Mary's is Georg Koch
Koch's agent, Steffen Backs said : "At the moment, I don't think he will be going to Southampton.

"We could not get an agreement with them on salary or on length of contract.

"The deal is not completely dead and we may speak to them again, but at the moment he is not going there."

What's odd is that Koch has been released from Kaiserslautern. With not long before the end of the transfer window, he's playing a risky game, holding out for mega wages.

As I'd never heard of him, if I'm honest, I can't say I'm too bothered. However Jonah is in his last season for us, and Blayney isn't ready for the step up.

However, the more I watch Jonah flap at crosses (a la the Wales international) or assume the ball is out of play (as seen against Leicester), the more I'd like someone else in sharpish. It's getting to the point that I don't care if I've heard of them or not.

I will however refrain from starting the "We want Koch !" campaign for obvious reasons.
