Rumour Mill Round Up

Having just signed a new contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2004, Garry Monk is off to Sheffield Wednesday to get some needed first team experience under his belt. Despite being highly rated, Monk has been with the Saints since 1997 and hasn't had a good run of games in the first team.

With Delgado and Pahars injured on Saturday, Kevin Davies made an appearance on the bench. While it's progress, Kev's future at the club remains in considerable doubt and he will have to do really well to get another contract before his current one expires in the summer. Davies had been "thinking over " a loan move to Sheffield Wednesday.

Saints have been linked with a move for Derby's right back Danny Higginbotham. Saints are reported to be preparing a £2 million bid. While Higginbotham is a decent player, I'm not convinced of the wisdom of dropping an experienced player such as Jason Dodd to put him in the team. As Saints also have Paul Telfer available as cover for Dodd, is the purchase really necessary at this stage in the season ? I don't think so, and any move should wait at least until the summer.

Saints have been linked with Burnley's Glenn Little again although there's probably as little in the report this time as there was first time round.

With Paul Jones potentially leaving during the transfer window, the press have linked us with Bulgarian International keeper Zdravko Zdravkov. The 24 year old Zdravkov currently plays for Slavia Sofia.

Neil Moss has returned from his three month loan spell at Bournemouth having impressed with his performances. Neil said: "If there was an opportunity for me to come back here permanently at the end of the season I'd definitely be interested."

Niemi, Jones and Blayney are ahead of Moss at Southampton, and he may well have to move on to secure regular first team football.
