Rumour Mill – three to find

The Millwall captain has been the subject of has/hasn’t he signed for us rumours for over a week now, but with no sign of activity. Sunderland are also interested, so we may see yet another player reject the Saints for a chance of Premiership glory. Although he’s the kind of versatile left-sided player that Harry is desperate to find, the ‘come and get him’ reaction of many Millwall fans to his rumoured departure hardly fills you with confidence.

Clinton Morrison
Birmingham have signed two new strikers this summer and Morrison faces time on the bench this season. He may well be up for the challenge of regular football in the Championship, although Steve Bruce has said he wants four decent strikers on his books. Harry has confirmed he “would be one we might look at but I think Sheffield United are preparing a big bid. I would not think anyone would pay the £2m reported in some papers but I think Sheffield United have made an offer.”

With the mass exodus having offset the financial problems of relegation for this season at least and having recently had a £1.5m bid fail for Kamera, this statement is a strange one. Saints have money to spend and more importantly we cannot keep letting our Championship rivals outbid us for players we can afford if we have any hope of going back up this season.

Piotr Wlodarcyk
Rumours were flying around the messageboards that Saints were going to sign Polish striker Wlodarcyk, but there has been little sign of activity or official statement as yet. This sounds like lazy tabloid journalism, e.g. Saints sign Polish defender Hajto and need new target man, so let’s link them with a Polish striker. Job done, down the pub.

His goalscoring exploits have hardly set the world alight, so this would be a strange signing. Surely we need to be looking to get a proven Premiership striker, such as Clinton Morrison, either on loan or using the spare cash from the Crouch deal.

Seth Johnson
Johnson has been released by Leeds to avoid a further £250k appearance-based payment and would seem an ideal signing to strengthen our left side. He is currently training with his former club Derby with a view to earning a contract and Saints should surely be trying to persuade him to join us on the south coast, as he is the kind of name that will demonstrate Saints' ambition to the rest of the league.
