Rumour Mill - Richards, Williams, Kapo

Last updated : 17 August 2003 By Christian Kelly

According to L'Equipe, Saints were due to finish off a deal to bring 22 year old striker Oliver Kapo in from Auxerre. Of course, this was just before the deal for Kevin Phillips was finalised, so it may have been Ruper Lowe's plan B.

We have been linked yet again with Ipswich's left back Matt Richards. Saints have apparently made a bid for the player but it has fallen well below Ipswich's valuation. Richards is seen, by the hacks at least, as a long term replacement to Graeme Le Saux. Le Saux has only been here five minutes and already replacements are being lined up. What's the world coming to ?

Paul Williams may be on his way to Stoke. Paul was brought in to provide some much needed back up to the Saints defence upon Gordon Strachan's arrival. Williams performed very well for the club, continuing his association with Strachan from their Coventry days.

However, Williams was only intended to be a stop gap. The arrivals of Danny Higginbotham and Fitz Hall have seen him become surplus to requirements. He will still do an excellent job for Stoke though, so I hope this one goes through.
