Rumour Mill 2: Sinners to Saints

Sinners to Saints

Enough of the bad news. The transfer window should be about the exciting names linked with an actual dream move to St Mary's. The only problem is there haven't been many of them, bar the attempts to secure the services of our three loan defenders - Davies, Ifil and Bennett - until at least the end of the season.

Three into three won't stay
Burley is on record as wanting to keep the Premiership three and all have certainly showed the necessary quality in recent weeks, with Davies and Bennett forming a promising partnership and Ifil showing real talent at right back. A big sale from Rumour Mill 1 looks to have secured Davies' future, but Saints will have to wait for Ifil and Bennett with both players having returned to their clubs, thanks to a new manager and the African Nations Cup respectively.

David Norris
Burley is a confirmed admirer of the Plymouth midfield dynamo's talents. The only problem is so are the relatively flush Ipswich and Leicester with a £1.5 bid turned down already. Far too overvalued for Saints unless our sugar daddy finally comes into view. So, that's a no then...

Volz/Baird
With full back an issue all season, Fulham's Volz has been out of the first team picture for much of the season and has being linked with Saints in recent months. Unfortunately, new boss Hodgson has given him a run in the side, but we have to hope he loses his place to youngster Omozusi or the man that was keeping him out of the side, Chris Baird. Now Bairdy would be some loan signing...

Christian Dailly
Burley is a big admirer of the 34 year old Scot's leadership ability and versatility. He did well on loan earlier in the season with finances restricting a longer loan period. If Burley is unable to get Bennett and Ifil back, expect to see Dailly in on a free and a wage cut.

George Weah's actual cousin
No, seriously, George has been on the phone (not the clearest line admittedly) and this time it really is his cousin. With that kind of family heritage, Weah insisted that a trial or indeed CV would be an insult and who are we to argue with the former world player of the year?
