With Harry looking for characters to liven up a quiet dressing room and given the recent departure of Jim Smith, a player-coach role is possible for 38 year old Wise. Wise has been offered a contract at Saints and is mulling over a move.

Provided Harry can free up some space in Saints’ bloated squad, 33 year old Stone is another strong character available on a free after being released by Saints’ new feeder club, Pompey. Harry has been quoted on the official site: “I like Steve Stone… and if I can shift a few then he would do a terrific job.”

Steve Sidwell
Reading midfielder Sidwell is considered one of the best players outside the Premiership and would be a positive signing for Saints. However, Reading will not be keen to sell to one of their Championship rivals and a Premiership club seems a more likely destination.

Ian Walker
With one of Niemi or Smith rumoured to be heading for the exit door, Saints may need experienced cover and ex-England international Walker would fit the bill. However, Walker would looking for first team football and may find limited opportunities at Saints.

Mamadou Bagayoko
Mali international striker, Bagayoko, who plays for French side Nantes, is angling for a move to England with several Premiership clubs and ourselves being linked. Unless he feels he looks best in red and white, he won’t be coming to us anytime soon.
