New Signing Imminent ?

It was only a few days a go that Derby said that they would be able to recoup between £6 and £8 million in transfer fees while the transfer window was open.

While Riggot and Christie have been linked with Middlesbrough, Saints have been connected again with long time link Higginbotham.

Higgingbotham, who previously played for Manchester United, can operate as a full back and as a centre half. These are both positions Saints require cover in. Tahar El-Khalej's departure has left Saints thin at the back and cover will be required for Wayne Bridge as Francis Benali is on the last year of his contract.

Saints offered Derby around £750 000 for Higginbotham, which was rejected. However, their latest, increased bid will still bring in a bargain to the club.

Talks between the player and the club are expected to be completed tomorrow.
