World Cup Saints

Svensson knocked in a spectacular free kick to put Argentina out of the World Cup. Svensson had struck just wide from 30 yards a few minutes before his goal. Svensson was fouled in an attacking run into the Argentina half. Svensson and Henrik Larssen lined up for the kick but it was the Saints man who struck a lovely 27 yard curling shot past the Argentinean 'keeper. Argentina equalised through a penalty late on, but the draw was enough to see Sweden go into the last 16.

Svensson once again showed a great range of passing and ability and was the linchpin in the Swedish side from midfield.

On the match Anders said: "It's an amazing feeling. I just lost it when I saw the ball fly in the net."

"When I saw the ball go in I went crazy. I ran around like crazy. It was crazy."

"It's the biggest win I have ever had in football," he added. "We have taken a point from Argentina and won the group. It feels fantastic."

Anders told the official site:

"When I saw my free-kick go in, I nearly lost my mind. I just ran around and around and shouted! It was a fantastic moment for me and for the whole country. It was the best thing that has happened to me in my career.

"We worked very well, and deserved to qualify from the group. We have fought so hard for this, and Argentina is such a good team, filled with world stars.

"Not many people thought we could stand up to them. it was great experience to play against a side of that calibre but to come up with a draw is fantastic."

In the other game in the group, Wayne Bridge came on as a substitute for the last five minutes or so. Bridge replaced Ashley Cole as England easily managed a 1-1 draw against Nigeria which will see them face Denmark in the last 16. Bridge put in another solid display in the time he was on and didn't put a foot wrong. It's nice to see him getting the nod as a substitute in these games from Svenn Goran Eriksson, who clearly rates the left back highly.
