Tottenham team news

Spurs have a fairly clean bill of health heading into this one with Eric Dier, Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga the only prominent absentees.

New signing Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur came off the bench last time out and it would be a surprise to see either included from the start here.

Southampton team news

Lyanco was seen on crutches after he limped off in the first half of Saints' extra-time triumph over Coventry, with Ralph Hasenhuttl confirming he will be out for between two and three months.

Armando Broja was also injured against the Sky Blues and although he has not trained since, he will be assessed before the game. Nathan Tella will not feature as he continues to recover from injury.

Tottenham vs Southampton head-to-head record

These two sides first faced off all the way back in March 1897, and there have been 179 meetings in total.

Spurs enjoy a narrow, historical advantage, winning 85 games to Spurs' 64. The 51 other matches have ended all square.

Tottenham are on an impressive, recent run against Saints too. Spurs are unbeaten in the last five meetings between the pair, a run which includes a 5-2 victory at St Mary's in September 2020.

Tottenham vs Southampton score prediction

Southampton are more than capable of causing Tottenham problems here, but Antonio Conte's reinforced side are still big favourites to get a result.

Harry Kane bagging a brace in midweek is not a good sign for Saints, and neither is Broja's likely absence.

This, combined with Spurs' deadline-day signings likely being desperate to impress Conte, should give Tottenham enough to earn an important three points.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-0 Southampton
