Svensson wants to stay

It's been an awkward first season in the Premiership for Anders Svensson. The Swedish international has had to cope with the style of the league, often playing in a role out on the left wing which he dislikes and isn't particularly effective in. In addition he would seem to be third choice behind Oakley and Delap in the centre of midfield.

Despite this Anders is undoubtedly talented and is Saints best attacking midfielder. Anders has enjoyed the season and would like to prolong his involvement in it. Anders said: ''I have really enjoyed my first season at Southampton. I like the club, the area and I get on well with the manager and with the other players. I would be very happy if the club let me stay here for the rest of my career. But first I must play in the World Cup, if selected. It is the highlight of any player's career and then I would like to rest,'' he added.
