Svensson appeal dismissed

Svensson was adjudged to have deliberately handled the ball on the line and was subsequently sent from the pitch.

To no one's surprise the decision was upheald as to admit otherwise would be to admit that the referee had cost Saints a vital point.

An FA spokesman said: "The videotape has been viewed by the referee and he is content that his original interpretation of the incident, namely that the handball was deliberate, was correct.

"The videotape shows that Michael Svensson prevented the ball entering the goal and this was clearly a goal-scoring opportunity."

Svensson will mis the game against West Brom as a result of the ruling.
