Gordon Strachan was understandably delighted with last nights performance against Liverpool. aints played as a unit with every player working hard in every area of their game. Gordon can be proud of the work he has done on the squad since his arrival. Saints now have the stamina to last the full 90 minutes. Until Strachan worked on the players' fitness Saints were always vunerable to conceding late goals simply due to lack of stamina from poor fitness.

On the victory Gordon said: "We've not had too much luck over the last two months, but we got a bit with the second goal. We got some breaks, but I don't want to analyse it too much as I just want to enjoy the victory.

"In the first half, we played too many straight balls and too many long balls. After the break, we asked them to vary it and they showed a lot more bravery,"
"There was the belief they could win and they're a credit to themselves. I was scared they'd let themselves down. We'll try and enjoy it and then we'll concentrate on Manchester United."

"We're in good form and I can't disguise the fact I'm very happy. I'm proud of my players and they deserve a pat on the back."
