Strachan out by next season?

The days of any Tel, Alex or Bobby getting the nod to become a manager are seemingly gone forever.

Following in the footsteps of the likes of Italy, all Premiership managers must hold coaching credentials. As of next season all Premiership bosses must have either the Uefa professional licence or the FA's coaching diploma.

Managers who have over a decade of experience will automatically be given the qualification (saving blushes from Alex Ferguson and Bobby Robson), but Strachan will have to back to school.

From what I gather, the course isn't exactly rocket science and shouldn't be too much of a problem for the Ginger Genius. It's more of a way to create a closed shop mentality among coaching staff.

Which means that Howard Wilkinson must be in favour of it. Indeed he is, saying: "It is overdue. People have come to recognise this is a professional position requiring great expertise and to be able to walk into it without any training or qualification is a nonsense."

Howard has used his expertise and qualifications to successfully bore Wayne Bridge to sleep as Under -21 coach.

Let's hope having a similar qualification doesn't take anything away from Gordon's sense of humour.
