Southampton striker Lee Barnard could feature despite suffering a hand injury in a nightclub incident, which has left the player on police bail.Loan signing Nicholas Bignall could feature, but Morgan Schneiderlin and Ryan Doble are on international duty.

Ian Thomas-Moore could be named in Tranmere's squad after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Defender Liam Darville is out with a knee injury while Ian Goodison serves a one-match ban.

Tranmere manager Les Parry told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I've known [Southampton boss] Nigel Adkins for years, as I knew him when he was manager at Bangor, which must have been 20 years ago now.

"Southampton man-for-man have probably got the best squad in the division.

"The likes of Peterborough may have a better front line, but man-for-man Southampton have the better squad."
