Tranmere manager Les Parry told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I've known [Southampton boss] Nigel Adkins for years, as I knew him when he was manager at Bangor, which must have been 20 years ago now.
"Southampton man-for-man have probably got the best squad in the division.
"The likes of Peterborough may have a better front line, but man-for-man Southampton have the better squad."
