Southampton predicted lineup vs Newcastle - Premier League

Southampton continue their Premier League season as they make the long journey to Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.

Ralph Hassenhuttl's side were left disappointed on matchday one as they let a 1-0 half-time lead slip to lose 3-1 at Everton, but bounced back well to draw 1-1 with title contenders Manchester United last time out - although, once more, let a lead slip.

They face a Newcastle side who are yet to register a single point thus far, having lost 4-2 to West Ham on the opening day before losing 2-0 to Aston Villa last weekend.

To pick up a first league win of the season, here's the side that Hassenhuttl could set out to face Newcastle.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

An exciting prospect | Visionhaus/Getty Images

Alex McCarthy (GK) - A bit of a shaky start to the season but he's the first choice and should continue between the sticks.

Tino Livramento (RB) - What a talent this guy is. Defensively sound and absolutely fearless in his marauding attacking play. A very exciting prospect.

Jack Stephens (CB) - Performed well against Manchester United - notably pressing brilliantly to win possession in the build up to the opener - and has more than earned his place in the XI.

Mohammed Salisu (CB) - Wasn't the easiest of seasons in 2020/21 but seems more confident now and looked dominant in the United game - should be considered a sure starter for this one.

Romain Perraud (LB) - A real threat on the front foot but needs to adjust his game to be more solid at the other end - should get another opportunity on Saturday.

2. Midfielders

Theo Walcott (RM) - Poor outing last time out and was hooked off at half time, however will likely retain his place for the trip to Newcastle - his favourite opponents in the Premier League (11 goal contributions against them).

James Ward-Prowse (CM) - The best player at the club, and the club captain. Yes, of course he's starting.

Oriol Romeu (CM) - Another key figure for the Saints is Romeu, who could be crucial in stifling threats like Allan Saint-Maximin, Joe Willock and Miguel Almiron on Saturday.

Moussa Djenepo (LM) - An absolute blast to watch, Djenepo just doesn't shy away from anything. Can turn a game on its head with a moment of sheer brilliance or sheer stupidity - and no one knows which one it'll be.

3. Forwards

Adam Armstrong (ST) - Really should've bagged all three points for Southampton last time out but has had an exciting start to his career at St. Mary's. Will once more start to develop a blossoming relationship with his strike partner.

Che Adams (ST) - In Danny Ings' absence, it will likely fall upon Adams to be the leading man in the front line. Can be a real threat to opposition defences and, after forcing the own goal against United, has a good opportunity to bag his first of the season against a leaky Newcastle defence.
