Snodin leaves something in reserves

Snodin leaves Charlton after six years with his reputation enhanced after leading them to two successive reserve team titles. The move represents a promotion for him:

"While Southampton are a league lower, it's a step up for me in terms of first-team coaching, and that's the reason behind the move. Over the last six months of so I've had the feeling in the back of my mind that I wanted to challenge myself again, to see how far I can go."

Challenges we can certainly provide at Saints. Helping George Burley to organise, raise fitness levels and get summer's new arrivals to gel in time for next season's promotion push will be a serious challenge. He will bring welcome back-up to Burley with Saints short-staffed after the departure of the Redknapp coaching dynasty.

Snodin was a defender who enjoyed a successful career as a left-back at the likes of Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and Doncaster Rovers where he boasted the impressive strike rate of 61 goals in 309 appearances, a rate many of our strikers can only look upon with envy.

Welcome to Saints, Glynn.
