Saints sign 'not that' Pele

The club shop better make sure they have enough Ps Ls and Es after this signing who if nothing else will help sell plenty of shirts. The club missed a trick giving him the vacant number 3 shirt rather than the iconic number 10 currently held by spoilsport Jermaine Wright.

There was some confusion over the players age with numerous media outlets claiming he was 19 when in fact he is 28. He hasn't had the most stellar of careers thus far and it's fair to say that he has been overshadowed by his illustrious namesake.

Saints tried to sign him in the previous transfer window, but have finally secured their man despite reported interest from south coast minnows Pompey.

With continued doubts over the fitness of Svensson on his return from knee problems, he will be fighting it out with Higginbotham and Powell for the chance to partner the 2005/6 player of the season Claus Lundekvam. He's a sizable 6'2 and an ideal age for a defender.

Welcome to the club, Pedro.
