Fortunately, the tumour has been discovered in it's early stages and Rosler is optimistic about a full recovery.

"When they discovered the tumour in my chest region, I was told that it was found at an early stage. Therefore, the chances of a full recovery are very good," he said.

"The news of my illness came as a big shock to me and my family but I have always been a fighter, so I am convinced that I will win this struggle - the hardest one in my life."

Rosler had an x-ray after coughing fits became progressively worse over the course of a few weeks. He will miss the rest of the season at Norwegian club Lillestrom while he undergoes treatment.

While he didn't score many goals in his two seasons at Southampton, Uwe showed himself to be a hardworking model professional and his attitude impressed many. We wish him a speedy and full recovery.
