The Saints boss remains confident that despite a 4-1 defeat at Fratton Park the side still capable of earning enough points in their final three games to stay in the Premier League.

"It is a big hole," Redknapp admitted. " When I came here one of the coaching staff said ’You have got no chance here with this team’. But it is like everything, you think you can do it.

And, we can do it still. There is everything to play for.

"There are three games left and we’ve got to beat Norwich, Palace and Man United. We have got to win the games, there is nothing else we can do.

"We have got to go for it. We are not going to give up. If we win those games we can stay up."
