Rasiak move finalised

The move marks the first significant signing of the summer, although it was pre-agreed back in the previous transfer window. Rasiak played under Burley under Derby and the chance to work with his previous manager and get regular first team football ahead of the world cup made Saints an attractive option.

Rasiak has a decent pedigree in this league, spearheading Derby's passage to the play-offs last season, as well as notching 4 goals in his 12 starts. He has always looked a goal threat on his Saints apperances and has established a lethal partnership with the resurgent Ricardo Fuller.

In this most physical of leagues, Saints need a big presence up front and two strong, six foot plus strikers with a proven record in this league fit the bill. There are still question marks over their support, with Blackstock, Jones and even McGoldrick showing they can score goals, but not necessarily on a regular basis.

We can only hope that this will be the first of many significant signings to provide Saints with the quality to achieve promotion next season on the back of our current surge of form. The club had several million plus bids turned down in the previous transfer window, buoyed by the Theo Walcott transfer money.

Since then significant investors in Crouch and Wilde have bought into the club and it is hoped that they will provide additional financial backing as well as their share purchases.

With the retained list anounced in a few days time, it's going to be another busy summer on the south coast.
