Manadaric claims that it was Saints boss Harry Redknapp who insisted the player be sold three years ago to Aston Villa.

"Peter Crouch is a player we are very interested in," said Mandaric.

"We didn't really want to let him go in the first place but our manager at the time recommended we accepted the offer and we did."
