Southampton defender Radhi Jaidi says the team must improve defensively if they are to secure automatic promotion to the Championship.Saints were left two points off second spot in League One after being held 1-1 at Charlton on Tuesday by Bradley Wright-Phillips's late goal.

Jaidi told BBC Radio Solent: "One mistake and we conceded a goal.

"We should control the game better, it's about being ready and concentrating for the whole game."

The 35-year-old Tunisian continued: "I'm disappointed as a defender to concede a goal in that way, we played well but we are better than that and we should control games better than that.

We will keep doing our thing, we have confidence in ourselves and 10 games is enough to get automatic promotion.

"Everyone is disappointed as we had a good opportunity to get three points in this game and everyone was looking forward to winning.

"But we tried our best and we must now put this behind us and look to the next game."

Jaidi, who scored his third goal of the season at the Valley on Tuesday, remains optimistic his side can still obtain a coveted automatic promotion spot.

"We still have 10 games and there will be other opportunities," he said.

"We will keep doing our thing, we have confidence in ourselves and 10 games is enough to get automatic promotion.

"It is more important to get points every game and we will try to work hard and be ready for the next game."
