On the Wright track

In a welcome chance to talk about player transfers for a change, all the indications are that Wright will be a Saint come the new season. Wright himself stated his willingness to stay at the club and the club were keen to have him back on a free should Leeds cancel the remaining year on his contract.

What is more, George Burley is a fan of his talents, having worked with him at Ipswich and having brought him in on loan from Leeds. He has made 14 starts for Saints and slowly returned to fitness having sat out in the cold at Leeds and already been on loan to Millwall earlier in the season.

Once fit, he showed himself a highly versatile and hard working squad member, growing in confidence and doing much of the donkey work in midfield to allow Saints more creative talents to flourish.

With Saints still looking to strengthen in central midfield, with Polish international Radoslaw Sobolewski of Wisla Krakow a key target, Wright would prove a valuable squad member with Premiership experience at little risk on a free.

Sounds like good business, whoever is in charge.

He only deserves a line for his woeful contribution to Saints, but the man with the great name and opinion of his limited abilities, Jelle van Damme, is heading to Anderlecht. Bye then.
