No Fab reunion against Leeds

Fabrice Fernandes left Saints under a cloud with rumours of a bad attitude and a series of mysterious injuries. The fact that a genuinely talented player left for Premiership side Bolton for nothing despite having a year left on his contract says it all.

He has enjoyed mixed fortunes at Bolton with a solitary Premiership appearance from the bench and three starts and a substitute appearance in the cups. Bolton manager Sam Allardyce has a deserved reputation for turning around stuttering careers, including that of former Saints striker Kevin Davies. It will be interesting to see if Fernandes will earn an extension to his single year contract or if Bolton will be yet another club in his chequered history.

He would have enjoyed a mixed reception at St. Mary’s with fans divided over just how Fab he actually was. Given the record of our former players for scoring against us, he would have been odds on to score, so it is perhaps a blessing that he won't be joining Leeds after all.
