The Norwegian had a scan on the injury on Thursday which revealed there is no break and the club are hoping he will respond to treatment in time for the game with Millwall at St. Mary's.

Lundekvam said: "I am just glad there is no crack because that would have made things very difficult.

"I was able to play with a protective mask when I fractured a cheekbone but you can hardly do that with a rib.

"But with a bruise maybe I can have a jab or something. I don't know because I have never had anything like this before.

"I got clattered in training and it feels very sore at the moment.

"I did not think too much about it at the time but then in the afternoon it started really hurting.

"It will be very disappointing if I end up missing tomorrow because things have been going so well but I have not ruled myself out just yet."

Lundekvam will have a late fitness test on the morning of the game.
