Lowe Confirms Smith Departure

Smith, who moved to St Mary's after resigning at Portsmouth along with manager Harry Redknapp, has been released by Saints as part of a cost cutting exercise.

"We are all sad that Jim will not be with us next season, particularly Harry," Lowe said.

"Jim did as much as he could to keep us up, but we are now in the Championship and we have to tighten our belts."
