Kosowski on target for Poland

While Poland versus Austria wouldn’t have been my first choice for a Saturday night’s entertainment, Saints’ new Polish connection and a tight qualifying group pushed it up the agenda. It turned out to be a rewarding nights viewing from a Saints’ fans perspective with Kosowski on the scoresheet and an inept Polish defence that will lead to calls for Hajto to return to the side.

Kosowski scored with a coolly taken half volley that was drilled past the keeper with his less favoured right foot. He played on the left-side of midfield and while more comfortable going forward that defending, patrolled the left-hand flank to good effect putting in some decent crosses and getting back when necessary.

In the second half he was pulled into central midfield and proved less effective, but Saints hardly lack central midfielders and Poland were being overrun at the time by the resurgent Austrians.

The only minus point was a Hajto-style comedy dive out of keeping with a man of his considerable size. Let’s hope the Poles elimate that from their game or they are going to get some serious stick from opposition fans.

Whether QPR will be too soon for him, Saints fans should look forward to seeing him in action at St. Mary's sooner rather than later after this performance.
