With Saints waiting on news from Bierhoff, they have expressed an interest in Viktor Ikpeba. Ikpeba is a 28 year old Nigerian international who is currently playing with Borussia Dortmund.
Ikpeba's form has dipped since his time at AC Monaco hardly helped by the death of his wife. Dortmund DoF Michael Zoric said "Right now, neither the club or the player is happy with the situation, and we have to consider where we go from here .If there is a club that is interested in Victor, we are ready to talk."
Saints want to bring Ikpeba over for a trial. Stuart Gary said: "Nothing has been decided yet, but we will get him over and take a look at him."
"He has an impressive pedigree and has played at some of Europe's top clubs."
However, it would seem that the Saints are the only club interested in the Nigerian. Real Betis are reportedly lining up a one year loan deal. President Manuel Ruiz de Lopera said: "Ikpeba is number one on our list. But there are also six or seven players hoping to reinforce the squad in case the negotiations fail.
"There is total agreement with Ikpeba, who is already in Seville. We only lack closing it with Borussia Dortmund."
