Graydon Gone at Walsall

Ex-Saints Reserve coach Ray Graydon has been dismissed as manager of Walsall as the side struggle at the foot of the first division. Graydon was part of the Southampton coaching structure under Chris Nichol and has been at Walsall since 1998. In that time he got promotion form the second to the first in 98/99 before being promptly relegated back down the following season. The pattern looked to be about to repeat itself, with Walsall coming up again via the playoffs last season only to find themselves at the bottom this term.

Graydon was understandably upset by the decision saying: "This is a very sad day for myself, leaving so many good friends and colleagues.

"My staff and players have given me terrific support and loyalty and our supporters made my stay at Walsall very enjoyable."

Of his 205 games in charge of Walsall, Ray's teams had won 79, lost 71 and drawn 55
