Five star display leaves Burley with striker dilemma

Yes, it may have been lower league opposition, but given the half dozen other Championship sides that went out of the Carling Cup last night, Saints put in a strong performance. Particularly eye-catching was the form of the strikers, with goals from Bradley-Wright Phillips and Kenwyne Jones, plus two assists from fit-again Ricardo Fuller's who put in a fine cameo from the bench.

After last season's dearth of strikers at the club, it is a refreshing state of affairs to have four strikers with a genuine case for starting against Preston on Saturday. We run through the options:

Kenwyne Jones (1 goal this season)
Kenwyne put in one of his most convincing performances in a Saints' shirt last night, winning more than his fair share of headers and linking well with Wright-Phillips and then Fuller who provided the assist for his goal. Still needs to show more consistency in his Saints career and the return of Rasiak and Fuller should restrict him to the bench.
Verdict: Subs bench again

Bradley Wright-Phillips (2 goals)
Another lively performance from the pacey striker who scored his second goal of the season with a clinical finish across the keeper. The little and large combo with Rasiak has worked well, although the youngster will need to find the net consistently to keep his starting place.
Verdict: Start

Gregorz Rasiak (3 goals)
The club's and Championship's top scorer was rested against Yeovil, but will have a fight to get his place back. However, with a double strike against Barnsley in his last match, he is the man in possession of the shirt.
Verdict: Start

Ricardo Fuller (0 goals)
An impressive return from injury for last season's top scorer who got a warm reception when he came on. Ran rings around the Yeovil defence and provided a welcome end product with two assists. After his lay-off and Wright-Phillips' goal, Burley will be looking for a similar impact from the bench.
Verdict: Subs bench

Preston will provide a much stiffer test for the improving Saints, but with home advantage, in-form strikers and Rudi Skacel starting to show signs of reaching full fitness with his 30-yard screamer, Saints are in confident mood.
