With Saints recently releasing Blayney and McNeil and with Poke injured, this leaves Saints with only one semi-fit keeper, Paul Smith. Smith himself is currently nursing an elbow injury, but is a more than adequate replacement, being a little unfortunate to lose his place to the Polish prodigy after finally securing the no.1 spot post-Niemi.

Saints are looking to bring in a replacement keeper this week, with either Warner or Crossley high on the agenda after being displaced by Niemi in the Fulham line-up. However, after his clean sheet against Newcastle perhaps Saints should look no further than striker Dexter 'Dextrous Backstop' Blackstock.

This could be a chance for the youngster to secure a permanent starting position in the side and he is certainly has the ability to 'do a Niemi' and go up for corners as rush goalie as Saints look to play a Woodward inspired brand of 'total football' with multi-skilled players!
