The injury has seen the Saints skipper sit-out the last five Premiership games.

"I tried to run but it just did not happen for me. I have had a scan as a precaution but it is a tear and it will take time," said Dodd.

"It is doing my head in but there is not a lot I can do about it. I can't risk coming back too soon because if it goes again I could be out for a lot longer.

"I won't be able to play on Saturday but I am now hoping for the following week against Liverpool - or failing that the FA Cup tie against Cambridge or Millwall.

"We are quite happy with the draw. It is a home game and you can't ask more than that. There are three more all Premiership ties so the competition is opening up although we are not getting carried away.

"It was a great win over Spurs but we are not looking any further than the next round just yet."
