"Claus has a hamstring strain and won't be fit for the game at Birmingham but it is still too early to say how long he will be out," Saints' physio Jim Joyce told the club's official website.
"He will probably have an ultrasound scan later in the week and that will give us a better indication of the damage.
"But we have to wait for it to settle first so there is no point doing it just yet."
