Defence have plenty in Reserves

Claus and Killer formed a formidable partnership in the Premiership and represent two of the longest serving players at the club after two seasons of incredible unheaval.

Injury has cruelly denied Saints fans the sight of the Scandinavian centre back duo keeping out the opposition as Svensson has struggled from injury to injury on his suspect knee and associated ailments.

While he has admitted that the knee will never be 100% again, Svensson is still hopefully that with careful management he can keep playing at an age when as a defender he is in his prime.

Alongside them in the reserves is Alexander 'Jesus' Ostlund previously Sweden's international right back, making for an impressive looking line-up of Scandinavian internationals. Consider that potential line-up with the addition of Wales' youngest ever international Gareth Bale who has been in and out of the starting line-up and Saints have quite some strengths in reserve.

Chris Baird has been outstanding at centre back, but can move across to right back should Svensson finally overcome his injury nightmares and return to the dominant form of old. With Pele adjusting well to life in English football and Claus Lundekvam a certainity in the starting line-up when fit, George Burley can juggle has resources as injuries and the demands of the season take their toll.

As for now, we can only hope that Michael 'Killer' Svensson can come through tonight's game and next week's reserve game unscathed alongside Captain Claus to provide strength in depth for Saints' inconsistent defence.
