Comment: a week's a long time at SFC

What a week to go on holiday. When I left we were sinking fast on a terrible run of form, with fan turning against fan, Millwall and Crewe getting ever closer and still no sign of changes at the top of the Saints hierachy.

Not only did I miss one of the games of the season in the 3-2 win over Cardiff, but I also missed a veritable stroll on the beach (literally) as we coasted to the kind of easy win against Brighton that we were threatening at the beginning of the season.

We can also breathe easier in the knowledge that the nightmare scenario of a double relegation has been averted. Hardly something to shout about, but a relief nonetheless which means that we can now concentrate on next season, providing George Burley with the freedom to try out new players and new formations for next season.

After a quiet start as a member of the Saints Trust, I also received a questionnaire asking for my views on a number of issues at the club, the kind of consultatation process that us supporters are all too unaccustomed to. I await the results of the questionnaire with interest, as it certainly raised a number of important issues:

- Whether changes at board level are required
- Structure of senior management at the club
- Communication with supporters
- Ticket prices

It appears inevitable that changes are board level are imminent after the dramatic changes in share ownership with Michael Wilde strengthening his holding and Leon Crouch (no relation) purchasing the Invesco shares.

It remains to be seen whether or not they will call an EGM over Lowe's future, but it is difficult to see how the figurehead of much of the fan's discontent can continue without winning over the new significant investors. It would be best if an unseemly scrap could be avoided, but that isn't the Saints way of late.

The important thing is that any changes are made in time for pre-season and that George Burley is allowed to invest in the team and get on with his job.

Quite a week. The future's bright, the future's red and white.
