Bridge will miss England's game

Bridge's calf strain, sustained against Liverpool, ended an 113 match run in the first team and allowed Francis Benali into the side for a swan song.

Bridge said: "Realistically I am not going to make the England game. To do that I would have had to play at Blackburn on Saturday and that is just not going to happen now.

"The calf is still very sore and it is taking longer than I had hoped to recover so it is very frustrating for me.

"But I do not want to rush back because if I play before I have fully recovered, I could do some long-term damage."

Southampton may still have some involvement in the match, if James Beattie is rewarded fro his goal scoring efforts this season.
