Bridge backs the Saints

There's nothing like sitting back on the days when there's an international break and doing nothing. With the transfer window in place I didn't think I would even have to post the latest pointless rumours. Of course, I forgot that the hacks have to write about something every day to justify being paid.

Lacking in anything resembling originality, the old chestnut of Wayne Bridge having to move to secure an England future has come out again. Svenn Goran Eriksson picks the best players he has, regardless of club. Wayne Bridge is the best English left back and therefore he gets picked. It all seems so simple. But of course, nothing's too simple for the hacks, who insist that our Wayne go to London or Liverpool to play for a "big" side to justify his place.

As usual, someone always pops up with a quote. In fact it's possibly the same quote that gets used by everyone at the club. This time, Wayne himself drew the short straw and said: "I love playing for England and I don't think it matters which club I play for.

"The England manager is not worried. His only concern is to pick the best team and I think he cares only that you are good enough to do your job."
