Better off with Bierhoff ?
Saints are apparently still in the running for the signature of Oliver Bierhoff despite interest from FC Porto, Napoli, Marseille and Fulham. The race for his signature would seem to be between Saints and Real Betis. While he is undoubtedly a top class player Bierhoff is apparently holding out for a £30 000 a week pay cheque. This completely shatters the club's wage structure and despite what Dean Richards thinks, I wouldn't be that disappointed if we didn't get him. I think that the £3 million or so we would have to pay him could be better spent on improving the squad. I'd have rather the funds were used on someone like Lee Hughes on a longer term deal. The more the Bierhoff link continues the ore he comes across as a total mercenary who's just sitting back waiting for the biggest offer to come in. Bierhoff said: "Perhaps a decision will be made only after some weeks or in two to three days. It is most important that the club's ambitions is correct, but also financially it must fit.
"If they're a successful club, I would then reduce my financial demands."
