The game at St. Mary's also brought the curtain down on defender Francis Benali's 22-year association with the Saints and he made an appearance from the bench.
After the game, Benali told the Saints official website: "I am so glad I had the opportunity to pull on the shirt one more time and I am very grateful to the manager for letting me go on.
"It was wonderful to run out in front of a full stadium and the reception I got was absolutely fantastic. The fact that there was virtually a capacity crowd made it even more special.
"The applause when I went on sent a shiver down my spine and it will live with me for ever."
